about
Hello! I’m Ann, an author and freelance editor living in Durham, North Carolina.
I started out as a history professor—it took me almost ten years to finish the PhD (I know, my speed is dizzying). During those long years before I started working as a professor full time, I was a T.A. for a lot of history classes, taught my own classes at the local community college, and had the immense pleasure of teaching a couple sections of Introduction to Rhetoric and Communication, which was the required writing course for undergraduates at my university. I’m not sure who got more out of it, me or the students (probably me), but it was my favorite subject to teach of everything I’ve taught.
My second career was as a digital archivist. It was a lot of fun and I got to describe and ingest all kinds of born digital material and storage formats. My third career was in tech, and it was a wild ride through data engineering, software engineering, engineering management, and most recently as the director of an engineering department.
They were all worthwhile paths, but now I’m following a long-held dream. I hope you’ll check out what I find here.
